Network failure 'causes application disruption'
08/08/2008
Applications are disrupted by network failures more than by power shortages or problems with physical components, it has been asserted.
Figures from industry analyst Freeform Dynamics indicate that only software component failures account for more application outages.
The organisation's commentator Tony Lock writes in a blog post: "Twenty years ago the proportion of interruptions caused by hardware component failure would have been much higher, but systems have got better over time."
With almost a quarter of companies experiencing application disruption on a weekly basis, the need for an effective data network may be seen as underlined by the figures.
