One IT manager has revealed his holistic approach to addressing network security in an article for ComputerWorld.
Mathias Thurman explains that he begins by checking on individual workstations which are to require access to the network.
Such checks include establishing whether they are equipped with anti-virus software and that it is fully updated.
"Then I check out how employees, partners, suppliers and other business affiliates are given remote access," he asserts.
Mr Thurman continues that such checks are important when the company has ordered a new point-to-point virtual private network or Multi Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) circuit.
Companies looking to run a border gateway protocol (BGP) table on fewer routers could find MPLS to be a means of doing so, ControlCircle asserts.
"The net effect is seen in speed of access and network performance," the company states.
As a result of consolidating BGP hardware, ControlCircle suggests that IP transit may be conducted faster, more smoothly and with greater reliability.
