POC networks 'must be efficient'

22/07/2008

There is a growing need for efficient point-of-care (POC) networks as hospitals adopt electronic patient records, it has been claimed.

According to analyst Frost & Sullivan, healthcare providers are likely to see a number of benefits if they increase the efficiency of their networks.

With improving connectivity, the research firm suggests that identification errors of both patient records and operators may be minimised.

Senior research analyst Arun A K says: "As the number of decentralised tests is growing, there is a need for efficient operational and quality management of these tests.

"The increasing adoption of electronic medical records encourages the uptake of data management solutions."

One means of implementing an effective POC network could be to make use of a managed connectivity solution equipped with intelligent border gateway protocol (BGP).

BGP routes data across the most efficient path available on the network, helping to maintain speedy IP transit.

ControlCircle's managed connectivity services include the option of a Private Wire on its Metro Fibre Network, providing end-to-end security if necessary.
