Companies wishing to conduct IP transit securely could find VPLS is a "welcome architecture" for their infrastructure, ZDNet Asia reports.

The IT industry resource explains that VPLS, or virtual private local area network services, offer a number of benefits.

Article author Rick Vanover adds that there may be extra advantages to using a single provider when procuding VPLS services.

"The connections are on the same network when provided by the same carrier," he explains.

"In this situation the remote locations are on a single network from a TCP/IP perspective and may be easier to manage."

He notes that VPLS can enable point-to-point or multi-point connections over a network.

Companies could find managed connectivity solutions from ControlCircle are able to help them establish a VPLS network due to their support of Multi Protocol Label Switching (MPLS).

The networking services provider points out that MPLS can assist in point-to-point or multi-point virtual private networks - the latter of which represents a VPLS design.
